Mohammed Kudus’ high-profile move from West Ham United to Tottenham Hotspur is not only a record-breaking deal for Ghanaian football — it’s also set to deliver a tidy financial boost to his former club, Ajax.
The Dutch giants, who sold Kudus to West Ham in the summer of 2023 for approximately €41.5 million, included a resale clause as part of the agreement.
According to The Athletic, Ajax secured a 10 to 15 percent cut of any future transfer fee, excluding add-ons.
With Tottenham now paying €64.5 million (£55 million) to land the Ghanaian star, Ajax stand to receive between €2.4 million and €3.6 million from the resale clause alone.
But that’s not all.
Under FIFA’s solidarity mechanism, which rewards clubs involved in a player’s development between the ages of 12 and 23, Ajax are entitled to an additional solidarity contribution estimated at around €1 million.
Total Potential Earnings for Ajax:
- Resale Clause (10–15%): €2.4M–€3.6M
- Solidarity Contribution: ~€1M
- Total Windfall: Up to €4.6–€5 million
The additional income will be welcomed at the Johan Cruijff ArenA as Ajax look to rebuild and invest in their squad following a challenging 2024/25 campaign.
Kudus spent three years at Ajax, developing into a versatile and explosive attacking midfielder before making his Premier League switch.
His success in England has now translated into both sporting prestige and financial reward for the Amsterdam club — a testament to their reputation as one of Europe’s most prolific talent incubators.
