Daniel Afriyie Barnieh finally made his debut with a two-minute cameo as FC Zurich fell to a 2-0 defeat away to FC Lugano in the Swiss Super League Saturday night.
The 21-year-old forward signed from Hearts of Oak joined up with his new teammates in early February after leading Ghana at the 2022 CHAN tournament in Algeria.
However, Barnieh had to endure bench-warming roles in the first three games after his arrival. He was unused in games against Winterthur, Grasshoppers and Young Boys while he did not make the squad against Servette last week.
However, Barnieh got to taste some Swiss league action on the trip to Lugano.
FC Zurich were already trailing by two first-half goals from Ignacio Aliseda and Jonathan Sabbatini when manager Bo Henriksen decided to give the Ghana international his chance.
In the 88th minute, Barnieh came on to replace Congolese Jonathan Okita on the left wing.
FC Zurich sit eighth in the 10-team 2022/23 Swiss Super League standings with 25 points after 24 matches.
