Former Hearts of Oak coach, Kim Grant has insisted that Daniel Afriyie Barnieh can choose to stay at the club or leave.
The 22-year-old forward has dominated the local media with reports suggesting that he is reluctant to renew his contract with the club.
Barnieh has been a livewire for the Phobains in the last two seasons. The forward has won the Premier League, two FA Cups and the Super Cup.
Despite being reluctant to extend his stay, Kim Grant says the decision of the Black Galaxies captain must be respected by the fans of the club.
“He’s played two years for the club. He has been successful in helping the club win championships and qualify for Africa,” said Kim Grant who managed the team from 2018-2019.
“The player has every right to refuse the new contract but you have to look at Hearts of Oak, why did they not put a new contract before he was very very successful?
“He is not selfish, he is a football player. He wants to play in the best leagues in the world. I think people should be kind to Barnieh a bit,” he added.
Barnieh’s contract runs out in December 2022. He was part of the Black Stars squad for the 2022 World Cup but did not feature in any of the three games.
