Black Stars captain Andre Dede Ayew has paid tribute to former Cote D’Ivoire striker Didier Drogba for his exceptional representation of the West African nation and the entire African continent.
Ayew expressed his admiration for Drogba during his appearance in the French Ligue 1’s documentary, “Follow Your Lucky Star: Africa and Ligue 1 Uber Eats, the common goal.”
Didier Drogba, renowned for his illustrious career that included a standout period with Olympique Marseille and triumphs with Chelsea, notably winning the UEFA Champions League, currently serves as an ambassador for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) hosted by Cote D’Ivoire from January 13 to February 11.
Drogba’s impactful presence in AFCON history includes his participation in the 2006 tournament, where Cote D’Ivoire reached the final but lost 2-4 on penalties to Egypt.
Speaking on Drogba’s influence, Ayew stated, “Didier Drogba, he’s a true gentleman who represented the colours of Ivory Coast and the African continent very well. He had a huge career.”
