Ghana football legend Mohammed Polo has urged newly appointed Black Stars coach Chris Hughton to make the African Cup of Nations a top priority.
The four time African champions have failed to win any major silverware since 1982 despite coming close on three occasions in the last two decades.
The Black Stars have consistently failed to live up to the hype generated by a hopeful media and a passionate nation.
Their latest disappointment was a group stage exit at the 2022 World Cup.
But with the 2023 AFCON around the corner, the former Ghana international believes it’s time to end the country’s 40-year long-wait for a trophy.
“I think he knows the players; we should listen to him about he is bringing on board because we need nothing than to return to winning ways. The AFCON trophy has eluded us for a longtime and it’s long overdue, we’ve been marking time for long” the 1978 Africa Cup of Nations winner said in an interview with Bryt FM.
“To me is a task for him to win the trophy. They’ve taken the decision to appoint him because he’s been in the terrain for sometime now, so winning AFCON should be a priority under Hughton”
