Kumasi is buzzing with expectation ahead of this month’s Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Angola.
The Black Stars are returning to the hallowed Baba Yara Sports stadium for the first leg of the doubleheader on Thursday, March 23, 2023.
The 40,000 capacity edifice is expected to be chock-full for the crucial encounter which kicks off at 16H00.
The stadium has historically been a happy hunting ground for the Black Stars. Ghana are undefeated at the Baba Yara in 23 years.
Their last defeat at the fortress came against South Africa in the quarter-final stages of the 2000 AFCON.
Ghana are now in search of a ticket to the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations slated for Cote D’Ivoire in January next year.
The West African giants are top of Group E with 4 points following a 3-0 win over Madagascar and a 1-1 draw against Central African Republic.
Chris Hughton’s side will look to secure all three points in Kumasi before traveling to Luanda three days later for the reverse fixture at Estadio 11 de Novembro.
The last time the Black Stars played in Kumasi was the 2022 World Cup playoff first leg against Nigeria in March last year.
