Morocco kicked off the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) with a 2-0 win over Comoros, thanks to second-half goals from Brahim Diaz and Ayoub El Kaabi.
The hosts dominated possession but struggled to break down Comoros’ defense until Diaz’s strike in the 55th minute.
El Kaabi sealed the victory with a stunning overhead kick in the 74th minute.
Coach Walid Regragui praised his team’s performance, saying, “The match went as we thought it would, because the opening game is always difficult for the host nation”.
Morocco’s next challenge is Mali on Friday, December 26, 2025.
