Kwesi Appiah’s Sudan secured a crucial 1-0 win over Equatorial Guinea in their Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Group match, reigniting their hopes of progressing to the knockout stage.

The victory, Sudan’s first at AFCON since 2012, was courtesy of an unfortunate own goal by Equatorial Guinea defender Saul Coco in the 74th minute.

Coached by Ghanaian tactician Kwesi Appiah, Sudan showed grit and organization, defending their lead until the final whistle.

Equatorial Guinea dominated possession but failed to capitalize on their chances, with Pedro Obiang and Emilio Nsue missing clear opportunities.

The win lifts Sudan to third place in their Group,  with three points from two games. They face Burkina Faso next, and a win would guarantee their progression to the knockout stage.

Equatorial Guinea, on the other hand, are on the brink of elimination after two losses.
