AFCON 2025: Hakimi starts for Morocco against Tanzania after injury layoff

Achraf Hakimi is set to start for Morocco in their Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Round of 16 clash against Tanzania today.

The Paris Saint-Germain defender has recovered from an ankle injury and is expected to lead the Atlas Lions’ right-back position.

Morocco’s coach, Walid Regragui, has praised Hakimi’s quality, but had earlier raised doubts about his ability to sustain the intensity of the match following his injury.

Hakimi made his first appearance in almost two months as a second-half substitute in Morocco’s final group win over Zambia.

Regragui thanked Paris Saint-Germain for releasing Hakimi early, allowing him to recover for the knockout stage.

Morocco is favored to win the match, having won seven of their last eight encounters with Tanzania.

The match kicks off at 16:00 GMT at the Complexe Sportif Prince Moulay Abdellah in Rabat.

Would you like to know more about Morocco’s chances in the AFCON or Tanzania’s strategy for the match?
