Liverpool to Secure Passage to the Knockout Rounds by Beating Ajax

After their worst start to a season in the Premier League under Jurgen Klopp, Liverpool will head to Amsterdam to meet with Ajax as the Eredivisie champions sit top of their domestic league with the Reds all the way down in eighth in the Premier League.

It has been another excellent season for Ajax so far in 2022/23, but everything is different for Liverpool so far.

The club were defeated once again over the weekend against Nottingham Forest in a 1-0 loss where Dean Henderson was only threatened in the Forest goal on a few occasions.

It means just four victories across so far for Klopp’s men in the Premier League, with another three defeats as well.

What’s more, despite scoring an impressive 22 league goals, Liverpool did score nine of those all in one game as they hammered Bournemouth 9-0 back in August in a record-equalling result.

Klopp’s side will, however, head into the knockout rounds for yet another year if they can register up just a point in Amsterdam, as they only have that 4-0 loss by Napoli to deal with in terms of the Champions League so far.

Liverpool also managed to beat Ajax 2-1 at Anfield the last time these two met, as Mohamed Salah gave them the lead before an Ajax equaliser, as Joel Matip scored in the dying minutes to secure a 2-1 win.

As for Ajax, they were expected to struggle in the Eredivisie this season after losing key players and losing Erik ten Hag before the start of the season.

However, they once again sit top of the Dutch top flight after destroying Excelsior 7-1 and then Waalwijk 4-1 since a 4-2 loss to Napoli in Europe.

This also means Ajax head into this game off the back of scoring 11 goals and just two conceded.

In fact, in the Eredivisie, the reigning champions of the Netherlands have won nine games from 11 games and lost only once and drawn the other game, while scoring an extraordinary 38 goals and conceding only 10 – no side in the Dutch top flight can boast of better records.

The run of form for either side is very different right now, but Liverpool are looking way better in Europe.

Forebet predicts a victory here for the travelling Premier League strugglers and for the game to see over 2.5 goals as Liverpool then progress into the knockout stages once again.
