Ghana winger Abdul Fatawu has joined Ipswich Town from Leicester City in a permanent transfer worth €23.45m. The 22-year-old right-sided attacker has signed a five-year contract at Portman Road, running until 30 June 2031.
Fatawu arrives from a Leicester side he originally joined from Sporting in 2023, initially on loan before making the move permanent in 2024. He now switches to an Ipswich team preparing for life in the Premier League, with the fee reflecting his rise in value to a current market valuation of €20m.
Capable of operating from the right wing and predominantly left-footed, Fatawu has built his reputation in English football with 84 Championship appearances, producing 15 goals and 21 assists. He has also featured in the Premier League and domestic cups, as well as gaining experience in European competition during his time at Sporting.
Born in Tamale and standing at 1.77m, Fatawu has already collected silverware, winning the English second tier title with Leicester in the 2023-24 season and the Under-20 Africa Cup of Nations with Ghana in 2021. His international credentials were further underlined with four appearances for Ghana at the 2026 World Cup.
Fatawu’s move from Leicester to Ipswich on a long-term deal confirms one of the summer’s biggest transfers involving a Ghanaian player, with the winger now tied to the Premier League club until 2031.
