Ghanaian striker Abdul-Aziz Yakubu has bid farewell to Wuhan Three Towns as his loan stint with the Chinese Super League club concludes.

While the prolific striker is expected to remain in the Super League, the speculations surrounding his next destination have intensified.

Yakubu’s journey with Wuhan Three Towns began in March 2023 when he joined on loan from the Portuguese side Rio Ave.

The striker’s impactful presence on the field was evident throughout his tenure, featuring in 33 matches and leaving an indelible mark with 19 goals and 3 assists. Notably, his contribution played a pivotal role in Wuhan Three Towns clinching the prestigious Chinese Super Cup.

However, the future seems uncertain for Yakubu as reports suggest that he might not continue with Wuhan Three Towns. The twist in the story arises from Rio Ave’s rejection of the player’s loan extension request. This decision comes in the wake of Rio Ave’s financial struggles, as the club grapples with a lack of liquidity.

Wuhan Three Towns, keen on retaining the prolific striker, had proposed a deal to extend Yakubu’s loan for the 2023 season with an obligation to purchase for €2.5M. However, Rio Ave’s financial constraints compelled them to decline this extension, adding an element of unpredictability to Yakubu’s immediate playing future.
