Founder of the Right to Dream Academy, Tom Vernon has hailed Caleb Yirenkyi’s performance in Ghana’s Unity Cup clash with Nigeria.
The 19-year-old FC Nordsjaelland midfielder was introduced after halftime and slotted into an unfamiliar right-back role, but still delivered a calm and assured display.
His positional discipline, key interceptions, and support in the build-up helped Ghana take control of the second half despite a narrow 2-1 loss.
“Lovely to see a new star born for the Black Stars last night with Caleb Yirenkyi making an impressive debut,” Vernon posted on LinkedIn.
“There is no shortcut to the long-term development process required for elite performance in any field. RtD provides a small case study for the approach, but it’s a drop in the ocean of the talent of Ghana’s youth across all forms of intelligence.”
Yirenkyi, who has been a standout in the Danish Superliga with two goals and two assists in 17 games this season, is now being tipped for more Black Stars appearances, including a likely feature in Saturday’s third-place playoff against Trinidad and Tobago.
