The Ghanaian legend completed the first leg of the Standard Bank Nations Cup trophy tour in his native country on Saturday and told KickOffGhana.com it is imperative that the continent does all in its power to ensure the Nations Cup is not obscured by the World Cup. “Before the World Cup there will be a Nations Cup,” he said. “It is our African Cup and it is important we send a significant message to the rest of the world. For us it is important so we have to make it unique; we have to believe in it.” Abedi feels the trophy tour is part of the unique-making process and spoke of his delight with the Ghana tour and aspirations for upcoming trips to Zambia, Botswana, Namibia, Mozambique and Angola. “The Nations Cup trails the World Cup and even the European Champions League, so we must sell it and sell it well and the trophy tour is important in that regard. “We had an amazing time in Ghana, especially in Kumasi, where everywhere we went, people came out to see the trophy. I hope the other countries will do same because this is a trophy you only get to see on TV so it will be nice to catch a glimpse.”
