KickOffGhana.com learnt the new sports minister under the National Democratic Congress upset the Black Stars players at a meeting on Wednesday by first proposing a reduction in their winning bonuses and threatening to use members of the national U-20 team if the senior members did not comply. The Minister’s comments is said to have generated an angry exchange of words between himself and Sulley Muntari who dared him to use the U-20s but he has come out to insist nothing like that happened. While admitting to Peace FM that there had been agitations at a meeting between sports ministry officials, the GFA and the players, he insists he never proposed a reduction in bonuses or threaten using the U-20s. He says the players wanted an increase in winning bonuses from 8,000 dollars to 10,000 dollars which he insist the present government cannot afford. The minister says as players who earn relatively well, he wanted them to make some sacrifices which the players were unwilling to. But the minister says the players will earn 10,000 dollars for an away win and 5000 dollars for a draw from home.
