Antoine Semenyo says accepting the Black Stars invitation was an easy decision because he has always wanted to play for Ghana.
The Bristol City forward was called up for the World Cup playoffs against Nigeria in March. It was his debut invitation, but he was unable to join the team due to an injury.
“No [It didn’t take long to decide on playing for Ghana]. I have always wanted to play for Ghana but it was just the timing,” the London-born striker told Accra-based Happy FM.
“I needed to obviously get a bit of form and experience before hopefully, I could reach out to Ghana. They have come to me so I can’t complain.”
“I felt it was the right time. I felt I was playing well. I felt the call [to play for Ghana] was the right thing to do but the injury came. I was so prepared for the game [vs Nigeria],” he added.
“I’ve got few friends in Nigeria so I wanted to win and get the bragging rights but for myself, it’s always an honour and I will always be ready for the Black Stars,” he added.
Semenyo is expected to be named to the Black Stars squad for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Madagascar in June.
The 22-year-old has scored eight goals and provided 12 assists in 30 league games this season.
