Barcelona inform Sergino Dest of place in plans for next season

Those in a position of power at Spanish giants Barcelona have informed defender Sergino Dest of his place in the club’s plans beyond the coming summer, according to reports.

And the news, for those of a Blaugrana persuasion hopeful of seeing the United States international stay put into next season, has proven of an altogether positive nature.

Dest has of course endured something of a hit-and-miss season to date, drifting in and out of the club’s starting XI.

The January arrival of Dani Alves, meanwhile, has since resulted in the former Ajax talent being restricted to backup duties, culminating in suggestions that boss Xavi Hernandez could sanction his departure upon the transfer window swinging open in July.

Such claims, however, appear to have proven some way wide of the mark.

Instead, as per the reliable Samuel Marsden of ESPN, the hierarchy at the Camp Nou have made clear to Dest himself that he will be going nowhere this summer, ahead of playing an important role in the club’s first-team setup in 2022/23.

Mallorca test

Dest, in turn, will no doubt be hopeful of featuring from the off this weekend, when Barcelona return to La Liga action.

The Catalans are primed to welcome relegation-battling RCD Mallorca to the Camp Nou on Sunday night, no doubt eyeing a much-needed return to winning ways.

This comes with Xavi’s men in the midst of an alarming dip in form of late, culminating in three defeats in their last four across all competitions.
