Ghana goalkeeper Jojo Wallocott has named former England number one Joe Hart as his role model.
Hart, 35, now plays for Celtic in the Scottish Premiership. He is best known for his 12-year stint with Manchester City, during which he helped the club win two Premier League titles and one FA Cup.
Hart has been capped 75 times by England.
“As a goalkeeper growing up in the UK I use to watch Joe Hart of Manchester City and he is my role model,” Wallocott revealed in an interview with Accra-based Happy FM
Wallocott made his Ghana debut in an Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match against Zimbabwe in Cape Coast last September.
He produced an assured performance in Ghana’s 3-1 victory and has since been the team’s safest pair of hands.
So far, the 25-year-old has made nine appearances, three of which were at the 2021 Africa Cup and two of which were in the World Cup playoffs victory over Nigeria.
“It’s an honour to represent the national team and I’m proud to wear the jersey every time I’m called up. It’s a dream come true to play for Ghana. Sometimes I wake up and I think it’s a dream,” he said in the same interview.
Wallocott was recently named Goalkeeper of the Season in the English League Two.
He has also been nominated for Swindon Town Player of the season.
Swindown will be keen to tie him down to a new contract with his deal running out in the summer.
