Ghana’s President Nana Akufo-Addo has promised to support the Black Stars technical team to deliver at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
The biggest soccer mundial has been scheduled for November and December this year with 32 countries set to battle it out for the covetous trophy in the Asian country.
Ghana will open their World Cup account against Portugal before taking Uruguay and South Korea respectively.
The Ghana FA maintained Otto Addo and his technical team including George Boateng, Didi Dramani and Chris Hughton after steering Black Stars qualification to the World Cup at the expense of Nigeria.
Addressing the Ghana FA delegation led by Kurt Okraku at the office of the Presidency, Nana Akufo-Addo described the Black Stars technical team as the best combination and has therefore vowed to support them in order to succeed.
“I was impressed with the technical team, the way they handled the qualification and that is the reason why I recommended for their permanent stay and you did that. I think it is the best possible basis on which to go” he said this when Ghana FA President, Kurt Okraku and his delegation paid a courtesy call on the President at the Jubilee House.
“But having chosen the technical team, I will implore you (Kurt Okraku) to leave them to choose the players for the World Cup. I think that the people who run football clubs know what is required of a good coach, it takes a responsibility and if he doesn’t, you know what to do”
“But what is always a problem is Ministers, President and others influencing players on coaches, we don’t want it that way because we have confidence in the people you have chosen. I think we’ve got a very good technical team of Otto Addo, Chris Hughton, George Boateng and Didi Dramani”
“We’ve got a very good set of people to guide our players so we should leave them to work because they are the best combination for us and the rest of us will do our best to support them” he said.
The Black Stars will begin preparations in the first week of November, but a full house is expected in the second week, when all leagues will draw to a halt.
Ghana is scheduled to play one pre-World Cup match, against Switzerland, on November 17.
The West African powerhouse will kick off on November 24 with a crucial match against Group H favourites Portugal.
The Black Stars will then play South Korea on November 28 and Uruguay in their final group match on December 2.
