Mohammed Kudus came off the bench to wrap up the scoring as champions Ajax demolished Excelsior 7-1 in the Dutch Eredivisie Sunday.
Coach Alfred Schreuder decided to give the Ghana international some respite by going with Brian Brobbey up front in his starting line-up.
Mexican Jorge Sanchez opened the scoring after 15 minutes. A shot by Steven Berghuis was parried and the right-back was there to net the rebound.
Ten minutes later, Steven Berghuis curled in a second while Brobbey headed in a third just before the break.
Fifteen minutes into the second half, Brobbey hammered the ball into the top corner to make it 4-0.
Ajax smelled blood and Tadic added the fifth on the rebound after Steven Bergwijn curled in the sixth.
After coming on in the 74th minute for Steven Berghuis, Kudus added the seventh 9 minutes from time – his 5th league goal (and 8th in all competitions) in the 2022/23 campaign.
Ajax would not keep a clean sheet though as Nikolas Agrafiotis nodded in a consolation goal.
The 7-1 victory takes Ajax back to the summit of the Eredivisie.
