Tottenham find ‘breakthrough’ in talks for 6th summer signing

Premier League outfit Tottenham Hotspur are, according to reports, on the verge of adding yet another fresh face to the club’s first-team squad.

The latest player in line to take his talents to north London? Djed Spence.

Speculation surrounding the future of defender Spence has of course been rampant over the course of the last couple of weeks.

This comes with the 21-year-old, fresh off helping Nottingham Forest back to the top-flight of English football courtesy of the Championship playoffs, piquing the interest of a whole host of clubs.

Forest, for their part, are unsurprisingly keen to make Spence’s arrival permanent, owing to his impressive exploits whilst on loan at the City Ground this past season.

It is the aforementioned Spurs, though, who have long positioned themselves at the front of the queue for the talented full-back’s signature.

This comes with Antonio Conte understood to have identified the right side of his defence as being in need of reinforcement, and Spence viewed as a long-term solution.

And now, on the back of weeks of speculation, it appears as though a transfer, finally, is inching towards completion.

As per a whole host of reliable sources, on Thursday, Fabio Paratici and the transfer team on the Lilywhite half of north London reached a ‘breakthrough’ in negotiations with Middlesbrough.

In turn, a deal worth a fee in the region of £15 million is now viewed as imminent, potentially set to be concluded as early as Friday morning.

Should he ultimately land in the English capital, Spence will mark the 6th addition to Conte’s squad this summer, following all of Fraser Forster, Ivan Perisic, Richarlison, Yves Bissouma and Clement Lenglet through the door at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
