Shamrock Rovers and Hibernians will turn their attention to the UEFA Champions League first qualifying round first leg at the Tallaght Stadium in Dublin after the Maltese club ended their season with another triumph in the Maltese Premier League.

Both sides entering this one have had a sensational past year on the domestic front, as Shamrock sit top of the League of Ireland Premier Division right now, with Hibernians already crowned champions for the record 13th time and the first time in four years.

Hibernians have been putting the work in during club friendlies in the time since their domestic season ended in May, with Floriana beating them 3-1, after a rematch against Gzira, where they drew 2-2 just a month after losing 2-1.

Floriana were also victorious against them in their last competitive clash when Hibernians lost 2-1 in the Maltese FA Trophy semi-finals. Wilfried Domoraud scored late on for the club, but this was not enough to get past Floriana’s two goals.

Stefano Sanderra’s men ended their Championship round of the season top of the table, and they did so with a three-point gap on their league rivals, Floriana.

What’s more, they won 15 games from the scheduled 27, and with three losses only coming in the league, it turned out to be a fantastic season for Hibernians. The club also netted the most goals in the league with 46, while only letting in 23 of their own.

As for Shamrock, they are once again flying high in the league over in Ireland, and they are now on a winning run of four games after losing to Dundalk last month. Stephen Bradley’s men have also conceded just one goal within this time, while scoring five of their own.

It puts Shamrock top of the table by an almighty 10 points already in the League of Ireland Premier Division, although Dundalk below them can potentially cut this gap to four if they win their two games in hand.

At the same time, while Hibernians have had time off and been able to prepare for this game without that many games, Shamrock do come into this one off the back of two games within three games within the past 10 days also.

It could well play right into the hands of Hibernian, but the form of Ireland’s league leaders cannot be overlooked here. Forebet predicts a narrow 1-0 victory for the Irish side.
