Black Stars defender, Alexander Djiku has won the Footballer of the Year prize at the Ghana Football Awards.
Djiku eased past Thomas Partey of Arsenal, Daniel Amartey of Leicester City,
Jojo Wollacott of Charlton Athletic and Southampton’s Mohammed Salisu to win the accolade.
The 27-year-old has been a regular center back for Strasbourg who finished sixth in Ligue 1 last season as he made 31 appearances with one goal scored.
His impressive performances for Ghana was instrumental as the Black Stars qualified for the World Cup, beating nemesis Nigeria in the playoffs.
He also won the award for the best Foreign-based player of the year on the night.
In the Women’s category, Grace Asantewa was named the Female Footballer of the season.
She had a good campaign with Real Betis Women’s team last season, scoring 7 goals in 28 matches as a defender.
Asantewa also netted twice in six matches for the Black Queens – albeit they did not qualify for the Africa Women’s Cup of Nations.
The 21-year-old claimed the coveted prize over Dreamz Ladies’ Stella Nyamekye and Princess Owusu of Fabulous Ladies.
