There is an unquestionable feeling of frustration that has gripped Manchester United summer as both the club and its fanbase have been left frustrated at every turn after the Red Devils have missed out on multiple chances to strengthen via the transfer market.
Despite United closing in on a deal for Barcelona and Dutch international star Frenkie de Jong in what will constitute the club’s first official foray into the summer market under new manager Erik ten Hag, the Old Trafford outfit spectacularly failed in its attempts to secure a long-term solution in the number nine role.
Both Manchester City and Liverpool – two of United’s chief rivals in the Premier League – strengthened the tip of their spears through deals for Erling Haaland and Darwin Núñez; two players United were unable to capitalize on despite being linked with considerable interest.

Now that United missed out on not one, but two, potential key attacking additions they could have built a springboard for rebirth under Ten Hagm, Portuguese legend Cristiano Ronaldo could once again be thrust into the spotlight in the red half of Manchester next season despite questions surrounding his future.
It was first expected that Ronaldo could fall by the wayside in the northwest of England as a considerable amount of tactical reshuffling was expected under Ten Hag in short order this summer, which led to the club’s interest away from the Portuguese.
But with other issues now more pressing and in need of addressing via the market, Ronaldo has now once again been elevated to being viewed as indispensable for the upcoming 2022-23 league campaign.
Whether or not Ronaldo will be able to be wholeheartedly convinced of the new project and direction under Erik ten Hag remains to be seen as the Dutch tactician has a massive job ahead of him to get United back among the legitimate contenders for Premier League honors.
