FC AshantiGold 04 were held to a goalless draw by Young Apostles in their Ghana Premier League Matchweek 10 meeting at the Len Clay Stadium on Sunday.
The home side had been looking to follow up their 2-1 comeback win over Swedru All Blacks last weekend and move closer to the league’s top four. Instead, they were denied by a disciplined Young Apostles defence that produced one of its strongest performances of the season.
AshantiGold controlled possession for spells in the first half and tried to set the pace, but struggled to find a way through a compact and well-organised visiting defence.
Young Apostles arrived in Obuasi after a difficult sequence of results, yet appeared more assured than in recent matches. The Wenchi-based side also posed a threat on the counterattack when chances to break forward emerged.
The visitors came closest to taking the lead midway through the second half. AshantiGold goalkeeper Fatao Seidu made an excellent save in the 70th minute to keep out the attempt and ensure the teams remained level.
That intervention proved crucial as AshantiGold increased the pressure during the closing stages. However, Young Apostles continued to defend with determination and restricted the hosts to only a small number of clear chances.
Neither team could produce a decisive moment before the final whistle, leaving AshantiGold to settle for a point on home soil.
Although the result prevented the Miners from claiming maximum points, it extended their unbeaten Ghana Premier League record at the Len Clay Stadium to 20 matches. That run now includes 15 victories and five draws, highlighting AshantiGold’s strength in Obuasi.
For Young Apostles, the draw provides an important boost in their attempt to move away from the relegation zone. Their organised display ended a difficult run and offered encouragement for the weeks ahead.
The point also came despite Young Apostles still searching for their first away league victory of the season.
