FC AshantiGold 04 were held to a 0-0 draw by Young Apostles in their Ghana Premier League Matchweek 10 meeting at the Len Clay Stadium on Sunday.
The Miners had been looking to follow up their 2-1 comeback win over Swedru All Blacks last weekend and strengthen their challenge for a place in the league’s top four. Instead, they were frustrated by a well-organised Young Apostles side whose disciplined defending earned them a valuable point.
AshantiGold controlled much of the first half and tried to impose their rhythm on the game, but struggled to find a way through a compact defence. Young Apostles remained structured without the ball and restricted the hosts to limited opportunities.
The visitors arrived in Obuasi after a difficult sequence of results, but produced a more composed display than in recent matches. They also posed a threat on the counterattack when space became available.
Young Apostles came closest to opening the scoring midway through the second half. However, AshantiGold goalkeeper Fatao Seidu made an outstanding save in the 70th minute to keep the scores level.
That intervention proved crucial as the hosts increased the pressure during the final stages. AshantiGold pushed forward in search of a winning goal, but Young Apostles defended resolutely and continued to deny them clear chances.
Neither side could find a breakthrough before the final whistle, leaving AshantiGold to settle for a share of the points on home soil.
The draw extended AshantiGold’s unbeaten league run at the Len Clay Stadium to 20 matches. That sequence now includes 15 victories and five draws, highlighting their strong record in Obuasi despite their failure to claim maximum points.
For Young Apostles, the result provides an important boost in their effort to move away from the relegation zone. The Wenchi-based club ended a difficult run with a disciplined away performance, although they are still waiting for their first away league victory of the season.
