Ghana Under-23 head coach Desmond Ofei has named his final 23-man Black Meteors squad for the 2027 CAF U-23 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying tie against Libya.
The first leg will take place in Benghazi on Wednesday, November 11, 2026, with Ghana seeking a strong result in the opening match of the two-legged contest.
Barcelona B youngster Aziz Issah is among the headline selections in a squad that includes eight players based outside Ghana.
Issah is joined by David Oduro of Annecy, Oscar Frimpong of Real Madrid II, Aaron Essel of Sacramento Republic FC and Phyenyin-Denis Marfo of SC Internacional.
The other overseas-based players are Lord Afrifa of SC Austria Lustenau, Joseph Opoku of Swansea City and Dan Adu-Adjei of HNK Rijeka.
Ofei has also selected a number of players from Ghanaian clubs as he prepares the team for the qualifying campaign.
The home-based players named include Asante Kotoko pair Hubert Gyau and Emmanuel Sanja, along with Kelvin Nkrumah of Medeama SC, Alidu Labaran of Vision FC and Raymond Agyemang of Aduana FC.
Ishmael Addo of Heart of Lions, Eric Wiafe of Swedru All Blacks, Owusu Ansah of Port City FC and Firdaus Mohammed of Steadfast FC are also included.
Ghana must produce a positive result over the two legs to reach the next stage of qualifying, where they would face either Equatorial Guinea or Niger.
The qualification competition will be played over three rounds. Seven teams will eventually join hosts Egypt in the 2027 tournament, which will feature eight nations.
For Ghana, the campaign offers a route back to the men’s Olympic football tournament after a long absence. The Black Meteors last appeared at the Olympic Games in Athens in 2004.
The 2027 U-23 Africa Cup of Nations will serve as the qualifying competition for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games. Ghana would therefore move closer to a return to the Olympic stage by progressing through the Libya tie and the subsequent qualifying rounds.
