Man City set to bid for Leeds’ Kalvin Phillips

Premier League champions Manchester City is set to table a bid for Leeds United midfielder Kalvin Phillips.

City are in the market for a defensive midfielder following the departure of Fernandinho and according to The Athletic, City are hoping to spend between £45m and £50m on Phillips, and there is the confidence that the 26-year-old will push to join them if necessary.

A fee of that amount would see Phillips become the most expensive export in Leeds’ history something that might tempt the club to sell as they try to balance their financial books.

Leeds are expecting the arrival of Marc Roca at Elland Road but the move is not thought to be linked to Phillips’ future. Leeds are reportedly keen to sign the £10m-rated Spanish midfielder whether Phillips stays or goes.
The reports stated that City are yet to table a formal offer for Phillips due to his commitments with England but the move could start in the coming weeks when the player leaves for holiday.

Apart from City, the player has been linked with a move to United before but the player’s links with Leeds might make it hard for him to try such a move owing to the rivalry between the two clubs.
