The UK-Ghana Chamber of Commerce (UKGCC) and Ecobank Ghana PLC used an invitational tournament at Achimota Golf Club to bring investors, business leaders and policymakers together as the UK-Ghana Trade and Investment Summit 2026 concluded.
Held under the banner ‘Teeing Up for Growth’, the event provided an informal setting for discussions about trade, investment and commercial partnerships to continue beyond the conference room.
The tournament was the final part of the three-day summit, organised by the UKGCC under the theme ‘A Decade of Trust, A Future Always On: Scaling the UK-Ghana Growth Partnership’.
The summit aimed to move economic relations between the United Kingdom and Ghana beyond government-level discussions and towards practical investment, industrial partnerships and sustainable business growth.
For the organisers, the golf event was more than a sporting conclusion. It was designed to strengthen relationships formed during the summit’s welcome reception, business forum and investment engagements, using the networking opportunities associated with the sport to support business diplomacy.
UKGCC Executive Director Adjoba Kyiamah said the event reflected the summit’s focus on turning discussions into commercial partnerships.
> “The Golf Invitational is the culmination of three days of purposeful engagement between investors, business leaders, government officials, and development partners,” she said.
> “Throughout the Summit, we have focused on creating opportunities for trade, investment, and collaboration. Today provides an opportunity to strengthen those relationships because successful business partnerships are built on trust, confidence and sustained engagement.”
The summit included policy discussions, business matchmaking sessions and investment showcases. It also saw the launch of a Trade Resource Centre intended to improve commercial links between Ghana and the United Kingdom.
Ms Kyiamah said formal meetings could identify potential opportunities, but personal relationships were often vital to turning them into lasting investments.
> “At UKGCC, we recognise that economic partnerships are ultimately driven by people,” she explained.
She added that giving stakeholders the chance to meet and build confidence could support business expansion, investment and job creation, which made the golf tournament an important part of the summit.
Ecobank highlights cross-border growth
Ecobank Ghana PLC, the tournament’s main sponsor, said its participation was consistent with its support for businesses and cross-border trade.
Regina Ofori, the bank’s Head of Marketing and Brand, said the summit complemented Ecobank’s wider aim of helping companies expand across African markets while developing stronger links with international investors.
> “Ecobank operates across Africa with a strong focus on enabling businesses to expand and grow across borders,” she said.
> “The UK-Ghana Trade and Investment Summit aligns with our strategic objective of supporting trade, investment and private-sector development.”
Ms Ofori described the invitational as an opportunity for influential decision-makers to meet, potentially creating new commercial partnerships and investment opportunities.
She said closer cooperation between banks, businesses and investors would be important in unlocking Ghana’s economic potential.
> “When businesses have access to financing, networks and market opportunities, they are better positioned to grow,” she said.
The summit was also supported by GCB Bank PLC, PwC Ghana Ltd, the UK Government-funded Ghana Jobs for Economic Transformation programme, Fidelity Bank Ghana Ltd, Vivo Energy Ghana Ltd, Quao Realty, DMA Invest and Aqua Africa.
Guinness Ghana Breweries PLC, UniChem Ghana Ltd and Kasapreko PLC were additional partners, while The Business Year was the media partner.
