Prince Owusu scored his 12th goal of the MLS season as CF Montreal secured a victory over Columbus Crew at Lower.com Field in Ohio.
The German-born Ghana forward gave the visitors an early lead, finishing just five minutes after kick-off. Owusu was played through by a defence-splitting pass from Hennadii Synchuk and produced a composed finish from an acute angle to beat Columbus Crew goalkeeper Patrick Schulte.
Owusu’s strike gave CF Montreal the ideal start and continued his impressive scoring form since his move to North America in 2023. However, the advantage lasted only 15 minutes before an own goal by Thomas Gillier brought Columbus Crew level.
The match remained finely balanced after the interval, with the home side unable to build on the equaliser. CF Montreal eventually found the decisive moment late in the game when Noah Streit powered a shot into the net from 35 yards to give the Canadian side victory.
Owusu was substituted with 10 minutes remaining, making way for former Arsenal and Barcelona forward Alexis Sanchez.
The result adds another notable performance to Owusu’s increasingly prolific MLS campaign. His latest goal came as CF Montreal looked to capitalise on his direct running and finishing ability, with the 12-goal tally underlining his importance to the team’s attacking threat.
Owusu’s opener was created by Synchuk’s pass, which split the Columbus defence and allowed the striker to move into a shooting position. Despite the difficult angle, he struck beyond Schulte to put CF Montreal ahead before the hosts responded through Gillier’s own goal.
After the teams went into the second half level, Streit’s long-range effort settled the contest. His 35-yard finish arrived late enough to deny Columbus Crew the opportunity to respond and completed the visitors’ win.
The Ghana international has remained one of the most productive strikers in MLS since arriving in North America in 2023. His continued scoring run has made him a central figure for CF Montreal, while his latest contribution helped the club leave Lower.com Field with all three points.
With Owusu’s goal arriving inside the opening five minutes and Streit’s strike deciding the match after the break, CF Montreal twice found the crucial finish in Ohio. The victory also ensured that Owusu’s personal milestone was matched by a winning team performance.
