Hertha BSC have signed 20-year-old winger Farid Alfa-Ruprecht on a season-long loan from Bayer Leverkusen for the 2026/27 campaign.
The Berlin club, who compete in Germany’s 2. Bundesliga, confirmed the deal for the German-born Ghanaian after he spent the previous season on loan at VfL Bochum.
Alfa-Ruprecht returns to the second tier with Hertha BSC after a temporary spell at VfL Bochum, having previously been regarded as a prospect during his time with Manchester City. The move gives him another opportunity to continue his development in familiar surroundings and to establish himself at senior level.
Hertha BSC sporting director Benjamin Weber welcomed the arrival of a player he believes can provide attacking variety on either flank.
“With Farid, we’re getting a player who brings plenty of pace and dynamism and feels comfortable on both wings. We’re delighted to have convinced him to join Hertha BSC,” said Weber.
Alfa-Ruprecht said he had been convinced that a move to Berlin was the right decision and is looking forward to the new season with the club.
“For me, it was quickly clear that the move to Berlin was the right step. I’m looking forward to the season with Hertha BSC, I know the league pretty well and will give everything to ensure we experience plenty of great moments together,” Alfa-Ruprecht said.
The 20-year-old now prepares for another campaign in the German second tier, this time with Hertha BSC after his loan spell at VfL Bochum last season. His arrival adds a player capable of operating on both wings to the Berlin side’s squad for 2026/27.
For Bayer Leverkusen, the agreement provides Alfa-Ruprecht with a further season of competitive football away from the club. For Hertha BSC, it brings in a winger whose pace and dynamism were specifically highlighted by Weber as the club begin preparations for the new campaign.
Hertha BSC have confirmed that the loan will run for the full 2026/27 season. Alfa-Ruprecht’s immediate focus will now be on contributing to the Berlin club’s campaign and making the most of his return to the 2. Bundesliga.
