Spain midfielder Rodri has completed his move to FC Barcelona and says the Spanish La Liga champions’ footballing identity matches his own personality.
Rodri made the comment in his first interview since leaving English Premier League club Manchester City for Barcelona. The transfer is reportedly worth 60 million euros, with a further 16.5 million euros available in add-ons.
“Barcelona suits my personality,” Rodri said after finalising the move.
The midfielder has signed a four-year contract with FC Barcelona, with the agreement running until June 2030. His arrival gives the reigning Spanish La Liga champions a player who has already enjoyed success at the highest levels of both club and international football.
The transfer also represents Rodri’s return to Spanish football. Before moving to Manchester City, he established himself in La Liga during spells with Villarreal and Atletico Madrid. His performances for both clubs helped build his reputation as one of Spain’s leading midfielders before his move to the Premier League.
Rodri’s switch to FC Barcelona follows a major period of success with Spain. He led the national team to victory at the 2026 FIFA World Cup and was named the tournament’s best player.
The former Ballon D’Or winner said he was excited to begin the next stage of his career with Barcelona. His comments came as the club formally welcomed him following the completion of the deal.
The reported structure of the transfer means Manchester City will receive 60 million euros initially, while another 16.5 million euros could be paid depending on the agreed add-ons. Barcelona have committed to Rodri until the end of June 2030, underlining the club’s long-term plans for the midfielder.
For Rodri, the move brings him back to the competition in which he first made a name for himself with Villarreal and Atletico Madrid. It also places him at one of Spain’s leading clubs after his achievements with Manchester City and the national team.
His first comments focused on the relationship between his own approach to football and Barcelona’s established style. Rodri indicated that the club’s identity was an important reason why the move appealed to him.
Barcelona’s status as the reigning Spanish La Liga champions adds to the significance of his arrival, while his international success means he joins the club after winning the 2026 FIFA World Cup and receiving the tournament’s best player award.
Rodri’s unveiling and first interview come after the completion of his four-year agreement. The full interview video is available below.
