Ghana defender Abdul Mumin says Girona’s style of football was one of the main reasons he chose to join the Spanish Segunda side.
Mumin made the comments during his first interview since completing a move to Girona on a three-year contract. The 28-year-old joined as a free agent after leaving Spanish La Liga club Rayo Vallecano.
“Girona’s style is their biggest attraction,” Mumin said, highlighting the appeal of the way his new club plays as he begins the next stage of his career in Spain.
The defender spent four seasons at Rayo Vallecano after making a promising start to life at the club. However, the latter part of his time in Vallecas was disrupted by injuries, which kept him out for significant periods.
Mumin’s most recent campaign was particularly difficult. During the 2025-2026 season, he made only three appearances after recovering from a cruciate ligament injury.
He returned in time to be involved in Ghana’s 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign, although his contribution was limited to a bit-part role. His move to Girona now gives him the opportunity to rebuild his momentum following a prolonged spell affected by injury.
The Ghana international leaves Rayo Vallecano having experienced both an encouraging beginning and a frustrating conclusion to his four-year stay. His arrival at Girona represents a fresh start, with the club’s playing philosophy making a strong impression on him.
Mumin’s decision to join the club was therefore shaped not only by the chance to continue his career in Spain, but also by his attraction to Girona’s approach on the pitch. He will now look to establish himself at his new side after a season in which injuries restricted his involvement.
The transfer was completed without a fee, with Mumin moving to Girona as a free agent. His three-year agreement provides him with a lengthy opportunity to settle at the club and regain full consistency after the cruciate ligament problem.
For now, Mumin’s focus is on making the most of his new chapter. After overcoming the injury and returning for Ghana’s World Cup campaign, the defender will hope his move to Girona can mark a return to a more regular role.
His first public comments as a Girona player make clear that the club’s football was central to his decision. The Ghana defender has identified that style as one of the biggest attractions of his move from Rayo Vallecano.
