Mohamed Salah has been ordered to appear in person before an Egyptian court on 6 September 2026 over a dispute concerning legal fees claimed by a lawyer.
The Cairo New Court civil chamber ruled that the Trabzonspor forward must attend a hearing to take what is known in Egyptian law as a “decisive oath”. The case, registered as civil case 7826 of 2025, was brought by lawyer Amr Faragallah Morsi Abdel Tawab.
The hearing concerns payments the lawyer says he is owed for legal and administrative work, consultations and court files he handled on Salah’s behalf over a number of years.
Salah is being asked to swear that the lawyer did not carry out the legal and administrative duties referred to in the claim, and that no fees or other sums are owed to him for that work.
The court said that if Salah fails to attend to take the oath, or refuses to do so without a legally accepted justification, he could be considered to have “defaulted on the oath”. That could trigger the legal consequences provided for in such circumstances.
The court also postponed a decision on legal costs and lawyers’ fees until the dispute has been resolved conclusively.
The claim was filed in September 2025. In his case, Abdel Tawab sought payment for legal and administrative services, consultations and court matters he said he had undertaken for Salah.
According to documents submitted to the court, the lawyer relied on a general power of attorney for legal cases issued in 2012. He said the document gave him authority to carry out legal procedures and related work for Salah.
The lawyer stated that the power of attorney remained in force until August 2025, when he was notified that he was being removed from representing the footballer.
He is also seeking compensation for material and moral damage which he says resulted from not receiving his payments, as well as reimbursement for expenses incurred while carrying out the disputed work.
A decisive oath is a legal means of evidence used by one party in a case to settle a specific disputed fact. The party to whom it is directed is asked to swear that they are truthful in either denying or confirming that fact.
If the oath is taken, it has a legal effect in determining the matter in dispute. If the person refuses to take it, or fails to appear without an excuse accepted by the court, they may be deemed to have defaulted. That can have consequences capable of significantly affecting the outcome of the case.
The date of the Cairo hearing could create a scheduling issue for Salah, who is preparing for the start of his official career with Trabzonspor in the Turkish league.
He had been due to make his first league appearance on 15 August against Kasımpasa. Trabzonspor are scheduled to face Genclerbirligi on the same day as the court hearing.
Salah will therefore have to address the court’s requirement for personal attendance while beginning a new phase of his professional career with Trabzonspor.
