Spanish journalist Roberto Gomez has dismissed the possibility of Vinicius Junior leaving Real Madrid, describing any such departure as the “shock of the century” amid growing uncertainty over the Brazil forward’s future.
Speaking on Spanish radio station Radio Marca on Monday, Gomez said the 25-year-old remains central to Real Madrid’s team and insisted that losing him would represent a major setback for the club.
Gomez argued that Vinicius Junior is currently the best player in Real Madrid’s squad and said his influence on the team’s attack could not easily be replaced.
“Vinicius is Real Madrid’s best player at the moment. There is nobody on the wing who plays like him with that talent and influence. I cannot even imagine him leaving now, because he represents the spirit of the team’s attack,” Gomez said.
The journalist also questioned whether any club would be prepared to meet a huge transfer fee for a player with only one year remaining on his current contract.
“Who would pay 150 or 200m euros for a player who has only one year left on his contract? That does not make sense economically or from a sporting point of view,” he added.
Vinicius Junior’s current contract situation has prompted increasing media discussion in Spain, with the player approaching the final year of his existing agreement at Real Madrid.
Reports about his next move have been contradictory. Some sources claim negotiations are under way over a new contract, while others have suggested that major European clubs are monitoring his situation, particularly teams from the Premier League.
Gomez said the situation would become even more difficult for Real Madrid if Vinicius Junior made clear that he wanted to remain at the club.
“If Vinicius says openly, ‘I will stay here’, what will the club do? Will it force him to leave? That is completely impossible,” he said.
He concluded by rejecting the idea that the relationship between the player and Real Madrid could easily come to an end.
“How can Vinicius leave Real Madrid? For me, it would be the shock of the century in every sense. Real Madrid desperately needs Vinicius, and Vinicius needs Real Madrid. This is a relationship that cannot be ended easily,” Gomez said.
The debate comes as Real Madrid consider the future of one of their most influential attacking players. Vinicius Junior has been viewed by Gomez as the driving force behind the club’s offensive play, while speculation over a possible contract renewal continues to fuel discussion about whether he will remain at the Santiago Bernabeu.
