Paris Saint-Germain have opened formal talks with Ajax Amsterdam over a move for Belgium winger Mika Godts as they look to strengthen their attack following the expected signing of Norwegian forward Maghnes Akliouche for 50m euros.
The French club have already made contact with Ajax and negotiations are now under way over a transfer for the 21-year-old, according to Italian transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano.
Godts enjoyed an outstanding season, scoring 17 goals and providing 15 assists in 44 appearances across all competitions. His form has attracted interest from Paris Saint-Germain, who are seeking further attacking options during an increasingly active summer transfer window.
The Ligue 1 club have also spoken directly to Godts. Paris Saint-Germain sporting adviser Luis Campos held an initial conversation with the player, with discussions described as “very fruitful”.
Godts was impressed by the sporting project presented by Campos and has made clear his desire to move to the French capital. That preference could give Paris Saint-Germain an important advantage as they attempt to reach an agreement with Ajax.
Ajax had hoped to retain one of their most promising young players, but the Dutch club are now fully aware that Godts wants to leave Amsterdam. That has placed Ajax in a difficult position as the two clubs continue negotiations over a final agreement.
A successful outcome could allow Paris Saint-Germain to add another promising attacking player in the near future. The club are also monitoring uncertainty surrounding the future of France winger Bradley Barcola, who is attracting interest from several leading Premier League clubs.
Alternative to Diomande
Paris Saint-Germain’s interest in Godts has emerged after the club were unable to secure a move for Ivorian winger Yan Diomande. The player had been repeatedly linked with the Parisian side in recent days, but he is now expected to join Spanish giants Real Madrid.
The possible move for Godts reflects Paris Saint-Germain’s need to reinforce their wide attacking positions. The club are continuing to build a squad capable of challenging for every domestic and European honour after winning the Champions League last season.
Godts’ preference for a move to Paris could help accelerate the negotiations, although no final agreement between Paris Saint-Germain and Ajax has yet been reached. The Dutch side must now weigh its desire to keep the Belgium international against the player’s stated wish to continue his career in France.
