Ghana FA chief Kwesi Nyantakyi will travel to Cairo on Monday for CAF’s emergency Executive Committee meeting to decide on the hosting of the 2015 AFCON following Morocco’s withdrawal from hosting the tournament which kicks of in two months’ time.
The Caf Executive committee will meet in Cairo on Tuesday to discuss Morocco’s sanctions as well as reveal their replacement following their decision not host the tournament this year citing Ebola.
On Saturday evening, Morocco through a communique to media, highlighted they will not host the tournament in January despite Caf taking a strong stance on the fact that they will not change dates.
But a reliable Caf official states a Caf Exco meeting will be held on Tuesday in Cairo to decide what Morocco’s fate will be after they pulled out at the eleventh hour.
All indications have suggested that it will be a lengthy ban, a hefty fine and their possibility of hosting the Club World Cup championship could be affected. Caf’s decision will be taken into consideration by Fifa.
So far, Angola and Nigeria have dominated the speculations as countries that want to step in as replacements.
Last month, the governing body wrote to various federations, including South Africa and Ghana, asking on their possibility to host the event.
Some of the countries that have lost their hosting rights with reasons ranging from withdrawal due to lack of government funding to stripped of rights due to insecurity include: Libya, Zimbabwe, Kenya and Zambia.
