Abdul Fatawu Issahaku is set to join Ipswich Town from Leicester City after the two clubs agreed a deal for the Ghana international, subject to league and international clearance.
The 22-year-old winger, who helped Leicester win promotion to the Premier League and starred for Ghana at the 2026 World Cup, will move for an undisclosed fee.
Leicester confirmed the agreement in a statement, bringing an end to Fatawu’s three-year spell with the club.
“We would like to thank Abdul for his efforts over the last three seasons as he departs with the very best wishes of everyone at Leicester City,” the club said.
From loan gamble to promotion hero
Fatawu initially arrived at Leicester on loan from Sporting Lisbon at the start of the 2023-24 campaign, when the Foxes were rebuilding in the Championship following relegation from the Premier League.
He quickly established himself as one of the side’s most dynamic attacking outlets, impressing with his pace and direct play from the flanks as Leicester secured the Sky Bet Championship title and an immediate return to the top flight.
On the back of that promotion-winning season, Leicester made the move permanent the following summer.
Over the course of three seasons at the King Power Stadium, Fatawu made 100 appearances in all competitions and scored 16 goals, becoming a regular feature in the squad and a fan favourite for his energetic performances.
Ipswich strengthen wide options

The move takes the Ghanaian away from his current League One status with Leicester and into a new challenge with Ipswich, as the Suffolk club look to build on recent progress and push for further success.
The transfer remains dependent on regulatory approval from the relevant league authorities and on international clearance, standard procedure for a cross-border move involving a non-UK player.
World Cup platform with Ghana
On the international stage, Fatawu has become a prominent figure for Ghana’s Black Stars.
He featured at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, where Ghana progressed from the group phase to reach the round of 32. Fatawu played a part in that run before the team exited the tournament after a narrow 1-0 defeat to Colombia.
His World Cup displays, added to his club form in England and Portugal, have raised his profile in European football and underlined his potential as a long-term asset for both club and country.
Leicester move on after key departure
Leicester’s confirmation of Fatawu’s departure signals another adjustment in their squad planning following their period of transition between the Championship and Premier League.
While the club has not disclosed the transfer fee, the sale of a young, internationally experienced winger who has already delivered in high-pressure situations is likely to contribute to Leicester’s ongoing restructuring both on and off the pitch.
