Veteran Ghanaian coach Abdul Karim Zito has made it clear that his connection with Asante Kotoko remains unbroken, refusing to rule out a potential return to the Porcupine Warriors despite parting ways with the club after a challenging run in domestic competitions.

Speaking to Kumasi-based Akoma FM, Zito expressed that his loyalty to Kotoko is lifelong, underlining the deep bond he has with the club.

“I don’t know. I honestly don’t know. But one thing is certain, I am still Kotoko, and I will continue to be Kotoko for the rest of my life. Go and look at my car; you’ll see the flag there,” he said.

When asked directly if a return could happen in the future, Zito was careful yet optimistic:

“Oh, it might be possible. One day, I could come back. But for now, this chapter is closed. Next time, we’ll see.”

Zito’s credentials at Kotoko speak volumes. During his tenure, he led the team to multiple trophies, including the FA Cup, President’s Cup, and Toyota Cup, cementing his reputation as a serial winner in Ghanaian football. His stint not only delivered silverware but also brought tactical discipline and professionalism that resonated across the club.

Before joining Kotoko, Zito enjoyed a historic run with Dreams FC, steering the side to the semi-finals of the CAF Confederation Cup, where they eventually bowed out to Egyptian giants Zamalek SC. That achievement had already showcased his ability to compete on the continental stage and build teams capable of exceeding expectations.

Kotoko in action

Shortly after leaving Kotoko, Zito accepted a new challenge with FC AshantiGold, where he now serves as the club’s technical director. This role allows him to focus on technical development and team building, continuing his contribution to Ghanaian football beyond immediate match results.

While Zito is fully engaged in his new responsibilities, his recent statements suggest that his story with Kotoko is far from over. The door to a potential return remains ajar, fueled by mutual respect and a shared history of success.

Asante Kotoko

Analysts note that Zito’s remarks will energize Kotoko supporters, who have always held a deep connection with him. His acknowledgment that a comeback is possible keeps alive speculation about whether the club might one day seek his leadership again, particularly during challenging periods when the team needs a proven winner.

For now, the veteran tactician is focused on AshantiGold, helping the club develop talent and improve competitiveness in domestic competitions. Yet, the message is clear: while this chapter at Kotoko may be closed, the bond is unbroken, and the possibility of a return is a genuine prospect.

Fans and pundits alike will watch closely, as Zito’s legacy with the Porcupine Warriors ensures that his name will always be linked with the club’s pursuit of excellence. Whether the future brings him back to the Kotoko dugout remains uncertain, but his unwavering loyalty and respect for the club have left an indelible mark.
