Cptain of the Ghana national football team, Jordan Ayew, has expressed confidence in the current national team squad as preparations continue for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The global tournament will be hosted across United States, Mexico and Canada, with Ghana set to compete among the world’s best teams after successfully navigating the qualification phase.
Ghana have been placed in Group L alongside England, Panama and Croatia.
Ayew believes the players who played a key role during the qualifiers have shown enough quality and commitment to represent Ghana at the World Cup.
“I think the players who played during the qualifiers have done extremely well. I don’t think we need any additions.
I” believe we have a good team and, as time goes on, we are improving. We haven’t had much time to train together, but the unity is getting better and everything is improving,” he told Adom tv.
The forward, who has been one of the experienced figures in the squad, suggested that stability within the team could be important as preparations continue ahead of the tournament.
According to him, the players who helped the country qualify have already built a strong understanding among themselves, which could be beneficial during the competition.
However, Ayew acknowledged that the final decisions regarding squad selection will ultimately be taken by the technical team.
“I don’t think this is the right time to make changes. But to be honest, on the technical side, the coach will know whom to add or select.”
He also emphasised that any player invited to join the squad must be ready to make a meaningful impact and contribute fully to the team’s objectives.
The tournament will present another opportunity for the Black Stars to compete on the biggest stage in international football. With preparations gradually intensifying, the team will be aiming to build momentum and deliver strong performances during the competition.
For Ayew and his teammates, the focus will now shift to strengthening team chemistry and maintaining consistency as they prepare to represent Ghana at the global showpiece.
