German-born Ghanaian winger Davis Asante will miss the remainder of the season after suffering an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury.
The 22-year-old, currently on loan at SSV Jahn Regensburg, picked up the injury during a clash between SV Rödinghausen and Borussia Mönchengladbach II over the weekend.
Asante was brought on in the 66th minute but had to leave the field just 11 minutes later due to the serious knee injury.
His manager, Lars Fleischer, described the situation as “incredibly bitter” and wished the young winger a full recovery.
Before the setback, Asante had played 17 matches this season, scoring three goals and providing three assists across all competitions.
The injury ends his campaign for the lowly division side, preventing him from contributing further this season.
Despite being born in Bremen and playing for Germany’s U16 team, Asante remains eligible to represent Ghana at the international level.
