Medeama SC head coach Ibrahim Tanko has expressed his satisfaction after guiding his side past Samartex 1996 to secure a place in the quarter-finals of the MTN FA Cup.

The Round of 16 encounter at the TnA Stadium in Tarkwa ended in a pulsating goalless draw after regulation time, forcing the tie to be decided by a penalty shootout.

The Yellow and Mauves kept their composure from the spot, converting four of their kicks to seal a 4–2 victory and progress to the last eight of the competition.

The match itself was fiercely contested, with both sides creating chances but failing to break the deadlock over 90 minutes.

Speaking after the game, Tanko acknowledged the difficulty of the contest while praising his players’ resilience.

“It feels good qualifying to the quarter-final of the FA Cup. Samartex is a very tough team to play, but we had to earn qualification over them,” he said.

Medeama’s victory extends their impressive run of form as they continue to compete strongly on multiple fronts this season. The defeat brings Samartex’s cup journey to an end, while the Tarkwa-based club look ahead with renewed confidence.

Medeama SC will next face Division One League side Attram De Visser Academy in the quarter-finals, with the fixture date yet to be confirmed by the FA Cup Committee and the Ghana Football Association.
