Andre Ayew has reminisced about Ghana’s national team during his younger days, highlighting Matthew Amoah and Asamoah Gyan as the strikers he looked up to.
Ayew returned back to action after leaving Le Havre at the end of the 2024/25 season, missing about six months out as a free agent.
“Growing up, Matthew Amoah and Asamoah Gyan were the strikers in the national team, and Matthew Amoah was scoring so much. They were part of the people we looked up to,” Ayew said via NAC Breda.
Asamoah Gyan had previously spoken about his relationship with Andre Ayew, stating that any perceived rivalry is fabricated.
Ayew’s acknowledgement put to bed any purpoted rivalry between the duo.
“Andre is a good person, and I have genuine love for him. He has always respected me, but unfortunately, there are people who have manipulated the situation to their advantage,” Gyan previously stated in a solo rant on Instagram.
The two former teammates have shared a storied history with the Black Stars, often regarded as two of Ghana’s most influential players.
