Ghanaian teenager Jerry Afriyie was one of the standout performers on Tuesday night, even as RAAL La Louvière suffered a painful 2–1 extra-time loss to Royal Antwerp in the Belgian Cup quarter-final.

The 18-year-old striker featured throughout the 120 minutes at the Bosuil Stadium and left a strong impression against top-flight opposition.

La Louvière matched Antwerp stride for stride for long periods, with Afriyie’s sharp movement and work rate causing repeated problems for the hosts’ defence.

The game was ultimately decided late in extra time, when Royal Antwerp winger Gyrano Kerk struck a dramatic brace, sealing victory with a decisive goal in the 116th minute.

That moment ended La Louvière’s brave cup run and denied Afriyie a result his performance arguably deserved. Despite the defeat, the young forward earned widespread praise for his maturity and composure on a big stage.

Afriyie’s display further highlighted his growing importance since arriving on a season-long loan from Spanish side CD Lugo.

He has quickly settled into Belgian football and continues to deliver consistent performances.

With two goals already to his name for La Louvière, the teenage striker is steadily building a reputation as one of Ghana’s brightest emerging prospects.
