Ghana’s Black Queens are gearing up for the final draw of the CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) Morocco 2026, set for Thursday, 15 January, in Rabat.
The 13:00 GMT draw will mark a historic moment as the tournament expands to 16 teams for the first time.
Having finished 2025 as the third-ranked team on the continent, Ghana will be placed in Pot 1, highlighting their growing stature in African women’s football.
The Black Queens will face stiff competition from hosts Morocco, Nigeria, South Africa, Cameroon, and 11 other qualified nations, all vying for the continental crown and a spot at the 2027 Women’s World Cup in Brazil.
The draw coincides with CAF’s announcement of the Women’s Coach of the Year and other awards celebrating outstanding achievements in African women’s football.
This will be the second consecutive edition hosted by Morocco, which staged the 2024 tournament won by Nigeria.
For Ghana, the expanded 16-team format offers an opportunity to showcase the depth and talent of the national squad while gaining valuable experience ahead of the global stage.
