Hearts of Oak Communications Director Kwame Opare Addo has thrown his weight behind goalkeepers Benjamin Asare and Solomon Agbetsi, insisting both deserve places in Ghana’s squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Asare became the Black Stars’ first-choice goalkeeper after his debut in March 2025, featuring in all of Ghana’s World Cup qualifying matches. However, the former Great Olympics shot-stopper has struggled for minutes since returning from an injury sustained during an international friendly against South Korea in November.
In his absence, Solomon Agbetsi has seized his opportunity at Hearts of Oak. The former Dreams FC goalkeeper made his debut against Swedru All Blacks on November 15 and has retained the starting role, producing a string of composed and convincing performances.
Despite Asare’s limited game time, Opare Addo believes the duo have done enough to be considered at the highest level.
“We want both Benjamin Asare and Solomon Agbetsi for the World Cup; Asare has already cemented his place, and Agbetsi has proven his case,” he told Asempa FM.
Asare will be aiming to reclaim his place in goal when Hearts of Oak visit Hohoe United in their Matchday 18 clash at the Hohoe Sports Stadium on Sunday.
