Bayer Leverkusen will be without Ernest Poku when they face RB Leipzig in their next Bundesliga fixture.
The Dutch-Ghanaian winger has been ruled out after picking up a thigh problem.
Head coach Kasper Hjulmand confirmed on Friday that the 21-year-old will not be included in the matchday squad.
Despite his absence, Leverkusen are not overly worried about the setback.
“Poku is not ready, but we believe he will be fit again for the start in January,” the coach explained at the press conference.
The update has raised optimism that the winger could return immediately after the winter break.
Poku has impressed supporters since arriving in the summer, earning plaudits for his pace, intensity and attacking threat.
He has adapted quickly to life in Germany’s top flight and become an important outlet in Leverkusen’s attack.
In 13 Bundesliga appearances this season, he has registered four goals and two assists.
Those numbers highlight his growing influence in the final third for the club.
