Old Tafo MP Vincent Ekow Assafuah says Tuesday’s friendly against England is the ideal moment for the Black Queens to give new and fringe players valuable minutes.
Speaking to Peace FM, he stressed that squad depth is critical ahead of a month-long tournament, where injuries or suspensions can disrupt the team.
“Because we are going to a tournament, we should be able to try the new players on Tuesday. You know how tournaments are ; it’s a month long. You can get one or two key players injured, one or two can get a red card. In their absence, what happens to the team?” he said.
Assafuah warned that failing to plan beyond the usual starters can destabilize a squad.
“Normally, if you don’t plan for the team, it destabilizes the team. So because it’s a friendly match, we should try the new players to see if, in the absence of the original eleven, we have proper replacements.”
The Black Queens held their final training session at St. Mary’s Stadium ahead of Tuesday’s showdown with the Lionesses.
