Black Queens forward Chantelle Boye-Hlorkah has struck a confident tone ahead of Ghana’s maiden meeting with England, insisting the team will embrace the historic test without intimidation.
Addressing the media on Monday, Boye-Hlorkah made it clear that the Queens intend to remain true to their style when they walk out at St Mary’s Stadium on Tuesday evening.
“We respect England, of course,” she said, “but we’re not going there afraid. We have to be ourselves. We’re the Black Queens, and we’ll play the way we know best.”
The London City Lionesses attacker said the squad is buzzing with excitement rather than nerves, describing the atmosphere in camp as calm and focused.
“We’re genuinely looking forward to this game. We know what we can do. People love to compare England’s opponents, but none of those teams are Ghana,” she remarked. “This is the first time our countries meet, and we back our own qualities.”
Boye-Hlorkah stressed that Ghana’s strength lies in its identity, cohesion, and freedom on the ball.
“We enjoy our football, and when we play with belief, we’re a handful for any opponent. Our unity and confidence are what make us dangerous,” she noted.
She dismissed any talk of fear or stage fright ahead of the showdown with the reigning European champions.
“There’s absolutely no fear in our camp,” she said firmly. “We’re mentally ready, and when we believe in ourselves, that’s when we produce our best performances. This is a huge occasion, and we’re embracing every bit of it.”
Ghana will take on the Lionesses on Tuesday at 7:00 PM at St Mary’s Stadium in Southampton, marking a significant moment in the Black Queens’ return to high-profile European friendlies.
