Asante Kotoko coach Abdul Karim Zito has confidently declared his intention to defeat Ibrahim Tanko’s Medeama SC when the two title contenders face off at the Baba Yara Stadium on Sunday.
Zito’s bold statement heightens the stakes ahead of a high-pressure clash, with Kotoko eager to bounce back after suffering their first defeat of the season in midweek.
“It’s unfortunate that my brother, Ibrahim Tanko, is meeting me with his Medeama SC side at this time,” Zito said. “But I’ll have to beat him on Sunday.”
Kotoko enter the game fourth on the table with 20 points and remain unbeaten at home in their last 16 league matches.
Medeama sit second with 22 points and arrive in Kumasi on an eight-game unbeaten run that has solidified their title push.
Both sides boast identical defensive records, having conceded just six goals each this season; setting up what promises to be a tight, tactical battle.
Kotoko also enjoy a favourable recent history in Kumasi, winning three of their last five league meetings with Medeama at home.
